In a streamlined form, V-shaped, gray-colored, and well-equipped, the Western China International Expo Center (WCIEC), was put into service in recent days.
Sprawling 570,000 sq.m., including 300,000 sq.m. for exhibition, along the south extension of Chengdu's Tianfu Avenue and beside the Science City, the gigantic modern structure consumes nearly 110,000 tons of steel.
The building encompasses eight pavilions and 16 exhibition halls, among which 15 are of standard size and one is multi-functional. Structured with shuttle-shaped trusses and steel rods, the column-free architecture offers a broad vision and a high rate of utilization of space.
To serve as the permanent site for the Western China International Fair, the center will be major venues for large-scale conventions and exhibitions, as well as high-end business activities.
